Maya's 1 year stats

I realized that I never updated the blog with Maya's 1 year stats from her well visit.

She's still a skinny long thing.  She weighed 19lb 1oz (@20%) and was 29 3/4" tall (@70%).

She checked out a-ok but once again let everyone in the office hear about how unhappy she was regarding her shots!

I, of course, had a slew of questions as always- one was whether I should start to discourage her thumb sucking (which I have to admit makes parenting easier as I never have to remember a pacifier or retrieve one, etc.), which she really only does if she's in the car, putting herself to sleep, upset, or really tired.  He said that there's nothing we can do about so to not worry about it.  He said that they even can't really prove that it messes up teeth and that the biggest determinate for how her teeth will come in will be genetics- and Dave and I both had buck teeth so she's likely doomed anyway :-)  He also said that he's had parents with the biggest thumb and finger suckers with perfectly aligned teeth and kids with the most crooked teeth you've ever seen whose parents are in disbelief because the kid never sucked his/her thumb or took a pacifier.  So moral of the story- as with most things kid related- don't worry about it!

Here are some pics:
Maya has her own CamelBak water bottle now, but of course she still likes to take mine and drink from it!

Enjoying the nice weather by eating dinner outside!

Below is a video (well 2 videos clipped together) of Maya interacting with one of her birthday books and making animal sounds.  You really have to listen to hear the "woof" "woof."  Dave doesn't think it counts, but I do!  You can't view this on an iDevice- sorry- I don't like using YouTube, I started to get too many weird random views.

Happy Easter/Maya's 1st Birthday

Maya had the joy of celebrating her first birthday along with the celebration of Easter!

This month she really started talking more.  She can say the following words:
hi (with a wave), Dada, Mama, doggy, more (with the sign), all done, no, ball/doll (sometimes).

She seems really interested in walking and I think we'll be there pretty soon.  She's still up on her toes and leading with her belly!  I'll have her 12 month stats on Tuesday after her 1 year well check but she's still slim & tall.

Here's her 12 month shot!

She had a good and busy day.  She woke up and got to investigate her Easter basket, which was a beautiful gift from G.B.!

The pugs & Dave helped her investigate!

The Easter Bunny brought her a Karen Katz Easter book, some poseable Little People figurines, and a light up swirly toy.

She also got to open one birthday present from us.

It was a drum/music set.  She loved it, especially the drum.  We were happy with it too as the noises that it makes are not annoying and they are real instruments!

After her nap, we went over to Uncle Rich and Aunt Eleni's for Easter dinner.   Her Aunt and Uncle and Cousin got her a generous Easter basket filled with a book, a birthday outfit, and a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom sorting toy.  Here's Maya hanging out with her cousin Alex.

3 Generations:

After Easter dinner we headed to Dave's grandparents (Maya's great-grandparents), where she met her great-great grand mom- Lilia (I should have grabbed a picture of that).  She didn't want to leave the safe confines of her mom and dad.  Here she is posed with Dave.

Finally, here she is once we returned home- way past her bedtime :-)  The dress she's wearing was a birthday present from my godmother!

She still has another present from us to open- a toy where she can hit balls into the top and watch the balls roll down a maze.  She also received a new night time story from us, which we read before bedtime.

I can't believe that she's 1.  I was actually sad putting her to bed because I didn't want the day to end.  It's been such a fast unbelievable year.  We are certainly very blessed to have such a wonderful little girl.

Maya- 11 Months Old

Maya is 11 months old!  It's hard to believe that in a month she'll be a year old.

This month she has been crawling and traveling along the furniture like crazy.  She's surely a girl in motion.  We really cherish our cuddle time now, as she usually wants to be out and about exploring!  She now has 6 teeth.  She's also been a napping champ the past few months!  This month we started going to story time at our local library.  She seemed to enjoy it the first time, but seemed annoyed when other babies were not listening to the story (she LOVES books and will listen to them seemingly forever).  When the teacher asked "Where's my dogs Wags?" (a dog puppet), Maya pointed right to it (alright, she does just go around pointing so there is a chance she just got lucky)!  The 2nd time, she seemed scared of an older boy and wouldn't leave the safe confines of Mommy's lap.  Hopefully the 3rd time will be better!

Today the weather was beautiful!  We went to the park with 2 of my (Amy's) friends and their little girls!  I think the girls had fun- at least the moms did!

Here's Maya playing at the park with her identical twin friends! Her other friend was wrapped up in the Moby Wrap!

"I LOVE when my Daddy puts me up on his shoulders!"

"Check out my new pug shirt!"

"Mom, I'm too busy for you to take pictures of my first day in pigtails!"

Maya- 9 Months Old

"Hi everyone. I'm 9 months old!"

Maya turned 9 months old on Sunday!  I can't believe how big she's getting.  Her babyhood is going so fast.

This month she learned to do many things.  She is now crawling (happened within the last few days) and can pull herself to a standing position.  She first did this in her crib when she should have been napping.  Of course, the crib wasn't in the lowest position so I quickly had to lower the crib later that day!  She also waves and claps!

Maya likes to babble a lot!  Especially to Dave, I think she likes to tell him about her day.

She's eating her pureed green veggies now.  I think that her favorite food is squash- any type but she seems to especially like acorn and butternut squash.  Oh and she LOVES her banana puffs.  She grabs as many as she can at once now and tries to shove them all into her mouth!  If I put peas and puffs on her tray she'll knock the peas off for the dogs and eat the puffs- oh how quickly they learn.

Maya spent her first night away from mommy this month!  Dave and I went into the city on New Year's Eve to celebrate and had a nice time.  A big thanks to G.B. for babysitting overnight!

Her 9 month check-up went well.  She still a string bean-  29" tall (91%), 17 lbs 7.5 oz (26%) and her head circumference was around the 50th or 60th percentile.

Maya- 7 Months Old

Maya is 7 months old!  I can't believe how fast the time is going.  This month she learned to sit really well. She got her first tooth (her bottom left), and started laughing more!  Maya also started scootching backwards when she's on her belly- perhaps this is a prelude to crawling??  She tried a lot of new foods.  For awhile she was rejecting all solids, but this past week she's done a nice job.  She really likes apples, sweet potatoes, and butternut squash right now.  She got her first cold this month (although it might be teething related) but has been a trooper about it (except for at nighttime).  She also met her granddad this month.  She was very intrigued by his mustache and loved spending time with him.  Unfortunately I was negligent with the camera and didn't take any pictures.  I guess he and Mimi will have to come back up for some pictures soon! :-)

Maya was put to bed by someone other than myself for the first time this month.  The great G.B. (my mom) came to the rescue.  Unfortunately, she had to listen to a lot of "where is my mommy?" screaming but we all survived.  Dave and I had a wedding to attend.  Here we are all dolled up!

This month we celebrated Dave's birthday.  Here are Dave and Maya posing for a picture during our lunch!  Dave said that he might make it a tradition to go out to lunch with Maya on his birthday.  I think that would be really nice!
